Overview

UHMW (ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene) plastic is a synthetic resin, made when ethylene is polymerized. Tough and lightweight, polyethylene is used in several different applications, including packaging material, food containers, and plastic bags. The material boasts high-impact strength and remains easy to clean.

UHMW is an extremely tough plastic with high abrasion and wear resistance. The versatility of polyethylene has made it a popular plastic for countless industrial applications that require durability, low friction, and chemical resistance. Applications include UHMW wear strips, chain guides, packaging machinery parts, and marine dock fender pads.

UHMW is known for its extremely high molecular weight, which gives it an unsurpassed combination of slickness, toughness, and chemical resistance. UHMW’s molecular weight ranges from 3.1 million to 100 million grams per mole, with an abrasion resistance that continues to improve as molecular weight increases.

UHMW is easy to machine with common woodworking tools, making it extremely cost-effective and often outperforms metal in many applications. It is widely used in the food and marine industries due to its resistance to bacteria and moisture. Additionally, UHMW often replaces wood in outdoor applications, as it is not affected by different kinds of weather and does not rot.

Chemical Resistance

Handling Precautions
