Adhesives

Industrial adhesives are organic and inorganic chemical compounds that are used to join components. Products include acrylic, epoxy, and UV curing adhesives, as well as industrial sealants. Most industrial adhesives are used in fastening applications. Here at Plastic-Craft we carry products from Weld-On, ACRIFIX, and Caseway — so we are confident you'll find the right product for the job.

Reactive Adhesives

Single/Two-Component.

Reactive adhesives set by means of chemical, physical, or catalytic processes, and depending on how the adhesives behaves they can have one or two compentents. They are generally used when a high level of strength is required. These reactive adhesives generally have two components (binder and hardener). Binders and hardeners are always packaged separately. If the two components come into contact with one another, a reaction begins that sets the glue, causing it to reach its final strength.

Single Component

These adhesives react with air humidity, UV light, or oxygen. They are applied onto one of the surfaces to be glued. The reaction starts immediately as a result of the second reactive component in the atmosphere or on the surface to be glued.

Single Component

These adhesives contain a non-active hardener. This keeps the adhesive from hardening while in its packaging under normal conditions. A reaction only begins when the hardener comes into contact with one of the comments mentioned.

Two Component

These adhesives come in a liquid, paste or powder form, which must be mixed in the stated proportions. Once mixed the glue begins to set immediately. The glued joint must be fixed in place until fully dry. The setting time depends on the adhesive and the temperature of the room.

Contact Adhesives

Both Halves.

Contact adhesives are applied to both parts to be joined. After the flash-off time, which varies depending on the solvent, the parts to be joints are pressed together with a high level of force. The parts to be joined bond immediately. Loads can be applied to the workpiece after a short period of time.

How it Comes

Contact adhesives are liquid that come either as water or solvent. However, many contact adhesives available as solvent are toxic and flammable, but have the advantages of drying faster and offering a quick bonding process.

Common Uses

Contact adhesives are common in the woodworking industry, where they are used to bond laminate to other wood surfaces. They are also used to assemble building panels, countertops or furniture.

How it's applied

The contact adhesive must be applied to the two surfaces that have to be bonded. However, the contact adhesive must dry before it can be bonded. Some contact adhesives can take up to 24 hours to dry, but the bonding process is usually very fast. Usually, the bonding process can be performed within 30 minutes (in some cases even within an hour) after the adhesive has dried. A high level of accuracy is required as the bonding is permanent and repositioning is nearly impossible. As a result, the only way to separate two surfaces bonded with contact adhesive is by damaging one or the two of them.

Solvents

Both Halves.

Solvents can be defined as chemicals that are capable of dissolving, suspending, or extracting other substances, typically without causing changes in the chemical nature of either the solvent, or the materials being treated. Solvents can be both organic and nonorganic. When a solvent is organic, it contains carbon.

How it Comes

There are various types of solvents that have different physical and chemical properties. Meaning they can be used for different things, and can be found in different products.

Common Uses

Between household cleaning products, and industrialized manufacturing, solvents are a multi-purpose necessity. Solvents can ensure processes operate safely, and are a resourceful tool for operations across different industries.

Different Forms

Organic solvents are classified by their chemical structure. There are three main types, including:

  • Hydrocarbon solvents: Aliphatic and aromatic hydrocarbons.
  • Oxygenated solvents: Alcohols, aldehydes, ketones, glycol ethers, esters, and glycol ether esters.
  • Halogenated solvents: Chlorinated and brominated hydrocarbons.

ACRIFIX

By ACRYLITE.

Bonding two pieces of acrylic sheet together has never been so easy than when using ACRIFIX adhesives and auxiliaries. With a variety of options, you are sure to find the right solution for your needs, whether that be achieving rapid drying speed or a high strength bond. There's also a solution for reducing static charges with the help of an anti-static cleaner.

Reactive Cements

ACRIFIX reactive adhesives work great for projects where a quality bond is needed, typically in applications such as museum cases, lighting and aquariums. The bonds created are extremely high strength and leave a bubble-free joint.

Solvent Cements

The advantages of ACRIFIX solvent adhesives lie in the rapid drying speed of the bonded parts as well as their suitability for outdoor use. With this super thin formula, you can expect a fast-acting bond that's less labor intensive while still providing a nice strong joint

Cleaners

ACRIFIX AC1010 anti-static cleaner is formulated to cut static charge from sensitive surfaces. By dissolving and neutralizing static, this will allow applied areas to become dust free and stay clean longer.

Caseway

Leading quality

Caseway is an industry leader specializing in an array of products including solvent cements, epoxy adhesives, and MIL-SPEC polymerizable cements for industry users bonding plastics and other dissimilar substrates; Petroleum jellies & waxes for multiple industries and purposes; Paint strippers, adhesive removers, cleaners, and other specialty products.

  • Caseway SC-94

    Caseway SC-94

    $61.69
SC-94 is a medium to fast setting cement for acrylics.  It is water-thin, evaporates slower than SC-125, and flows in the joints easier, achieving a more bubble-free joint.  The bond is slower than SC-100 and SC-125, but the initial bond will...

    Caseway SC-100

    $17.38 - $42.58
SC-100 is a water-thin, fast to medium setting cement that evaporates slower than SC-125, but faster than SC-94.  This allows you to achieve a more bubble-free joint in most instances.  Solvent cementing depends on the intermingling of the two...

    Caseway SC-125

    $17.17 - $154.09
SC-125 is formulated for cementing acrylic to itself and other plastics such as polycarbonate, styrene, and butyrate (CAB).  Strong joints are made by using the “soak method.”  Solvent cementing depends on the softening and...
